Arraial do Santo Antonio

This year Rota participated in the organisation of Arraial do Santo Antonio. We were responsible for the decoration of the market and selling drinks.

While planning the decorations (colourful paper balls and flowers, banderolas, ribbons) and then putting the plans into reality we were wondering how many people will come to the celabrations, as on the same day whole Lisbon is celebrating as well.

For one special evening and night the market in Cascais turned into a vibrant party venue bursting with colours and musica pimba (Portuguese music typical for santos populares), smelling with manjericos and grilled sardines. We were positively surprised to see thousands of people waiting for the opening of the gates.

The party finished around 2 am., after innumerable bifanas and sardines were consumed and hundreds of beers and sangrias were drunk.

The first celebration of Santo Antonio in Cascais since a couple of years turned out to be a great success.

Este ano a Rota Jovem participou na organização do Arraial de Santo António no mercado de Cascais. As tarefas dos voluntários da Rota Jovem foram decorar o mercado e a venda de bebidas.

Não tínhamos noção de quantas pessoas poderiam aparecer no Arraial por causa das festas de Lisboa, que são uma forte concorrência.

Mas, por uma noite o mercado de Cascais tornou-se numa espaço de festa, cheia de cor e música, com cheiro a manjericos e sardinhas assadas. Ficámos surpreendidos ao ver as pessoas ansiosas pela abertura das portas do mercado.

A festa acabou por volta das 02:00 da manhã, depois de muita diversão.

Podemos dizer com orgulho, que a primeira festa de Santo António realizada no Mercado Municipal de Cascais foi um grande sucesso.
